COMMITMENT TO PATIENTS

Grifols' commitment to patients

Since we began in 1909, we have been committed to improving the health and well-being of people around the world. Our commitment to patients inspires us to maintain the highest standards of quality and safety for the medications we produce.

Grifols is a strong supporter of the patient communities we serve. Patients are at the heart of our work each and every day.

Focused on patients

Our focus on patient communities is based on four main pillars:

EDUCATE: Grifols provides patients with a first-hand look at the safety and quality of the plasma donation process and enables them to meet donors and employees. Grifols also hosts biannual Patient Community Open Houses, consisting of educational programs for patient community leaders.

ADVOCATE: We are a trusted and credible source of information for policy makers and patients. We work to inform community members on current health policy issues of interest to rare diseases and bleeding disorders.

ENGAGE: We engage with patient communities through ongoing events, patient and medical conferences, and gatherings with donors and employees at local donation centers.

SUPPORT: We have an efficient review and approval process that enables us to make donations to medical education and charitable causes that further the mission of patient organizations.

Transparency

Patient advocacy organizations play a critical role in the healthcare system by helping to increase disease state awareness, improve access to treatment and care, and in advocating for the highest standards of quality and safety. Grifols' approach to patient relations is to educate, advocate, engage, and support patient advocacy organizations that are aligned with the therapeutic areas in which the company operates. Financial support comes in the form of charitable grants that are intended to provide resources necessary for patient advocacy and support organizations to fulfill their mission. Grifols' guiding principles for patient engagement include the following:

  • Grifols supports unrestricted access to the most appropriate care and treatment at the most appropriate site of service as determined by the patient and physician
  • Grifols respects the privacy of each member of the patient community regardless of their role (patient, caregiver, family member) or treatment regimen
  • Grifols' charitable donations are intended to further the mission of patient advocacy organizations and are not intended to benefit any commercial objectives

Grifols believes that an ethical, sustainable and transparent approach in how the company operates will continue to generate the respect, trust and confidence of the patient advocacy organizations served.  Grifols respects the independent nature of the patient advocacy organizations and receives nothing of value in return for charitable donations other than required acknowledgement of Grifols' financial support.

Grifols complies with all existing laws and regulations that govern the interactions between industry and the patient communities. These rules include the Sunshine Act, EFPIA Code of practice on relationships between the pharmaceutical industry and patient organizations in Europe and various legal reporting obligations at the national level. Grifols fully supports and has voluntarily adopted global disclosure practices.

Grifols publishes country-specific reports on support provided by Grifols to patient advocacy organizations worldwide during 2018
