Ms. Marla E. Salmon has served as director of Grifols, S.A since May 2014. She is Professor at the University of Washington, and holds several positions in nursing, global health, public affairs and business management. Her career has focused on health policy and health care systems capacity building both, globally and in the US, working with governments, international agencies and other health –related entities. Her most recent work focuses on entrepreneurship and social development projects in the health sector.
She holds degrees in political science and nursing from the University of Portland, and was a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Cologne (Germany). She also holds a Ph.D. in Health Policy and Administration from the Johns Hopkins University. She also holds two Honoris Causa doctorates in recognition of her national and international services and is a member of the Institute of Medicine.
Ms. Marla E. Salmon is a director of the Board of IES Abroad, Inc and The Once city Project. In the past she has been a Director of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's Board and of the National Center for Healthcare Leadership. Her advisory roles include the White House Task Force on Health Care Reform, the commission for "Build a Healthier America", the World Health Organization's Global Advisory Group on Nursing and Midwifery, and the National Institutes of Health National Advisory Committee for the Institute of Nursing Research.
