Grifols signs renewable energy purchase agreement with ENGIE to cover more than half of its electricity consumption in Spain

Barcelona, Spain, September 16, 2026 – Grifols (MCE:GRF, MCE:GRF.P, NASDAQ:GRFS), a global healthcare company and leading producer of plasma-derived medicines, has entered into a renewable power purchase agreement (PPA) with ENGIE, a global leader in low-carbon energy and services, to purchase a total of 40 GWh of renewable energy annually over the next 10 years. The agreement, which will run from 2027 through 2037, complements Grifols’ existing renewable electricity supply and will enable the company to cover 66% of its electricity demand in Spain from renewable sources.

The electricity supplied to Grifols will come from new solar photovoltaic and wind facilities located in Spain. By sourcing electricity from these facilities, the company is expected to avoid approximately 8,000 metric tons of CO₂ emissions annually.

Through this long-term renewable PPA, Grifols will benefit from a stable and predictable supply of renewable electricity, while ENGIE will commit to supplying power generated by the contracted facilities throughout the term of the agreement. The development of these renewable energy facilities will help strengthen Spain’s power generation capacity and support the country’s energy transition.

Net zero emissions by 2050

The agreement between Grifols and ENGIE supports the company’s commitment to reduce its absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 42% and its Scope 3 emissions by 25% by 2030, compared with a 2022 baseline. The ultimate goal is to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.

A key element of this effort is the company’s commitment to expanding and promoting the use of renewable energy. In line with the goals established in its sustainability strategy, Grifols aims for 100% of the electricity it consumes to come from renewable sources by 2030. This commitment includes the purchase of green energy and the development of new power generation facilities, complemented by renewable electricity supply agreements.

Grifols will also build a new production facility in Lliçà de Vall that will operate entirely on renewable electricity. At the same time, the company will implement smart resource monitoring and management systems across a highly digitalized campus to optimize energy and water consumption and minimize unnecessary use, supporting greater energy efficiency. The application of circular economy best practices will ensure that materials are reused throughout their life cycle. Construction of the facility is expected to begin this year, with operations scheduled to start in 2030.

The renewable power purchase agreement is part of Grifols’ 2025–2027 Sustainability Plan and represents another step forward in the implementation of the company’s sustainability roadmap. By the end of 2025, Grifols had already achieved approximately 60% of its goal of sourcing 100% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030, further consolidating progress toward the commitments outlined in its 2030 Agenda. As part of this commitment, the company continues to advance the development of its Climate Transition and Decarbonization Plan, which will establish the roadmap for accelerating emissions reductions and progressing toward the goal of net zero emissions by 2050.

Grifols’ commitment to reducing its environmental footprint is also reflected in prestigious sustainability rankings, including the 2025 EcoVadis assessment, in which the company received the highest distinction, Platinum, with a score of 86 out of 100. This recognition further reinforces Grifols’ position as a global sustainability leader, following its recognition as one of the world’s most sustainable biotechnology companies by the Dow Jones Best-in-Class Indices.
