MDmulticard®

A five-centimeter laboratory that can save a life in five minutes

Grifols offers MDmulticard®, an innovative card based on the lateral flow technique, that lets you determine a patient's ABO Group*, Rh (D), Rh phenotype and K in less than five minutes with just a single drop of blood.

The card is fast, simple to use, and provides fully reliable, accurate and stable results. In addition, it has a long shelf-life at room temperature, and requires only small bench-top space for processing, making logistics and handling absolutely effortless.

Most convenient method for emergencies:

MDmulticard® is ideal for use in life-threatening emergency situations, where patients require immediate attention. The card was specifically designed to simplify standard methods and optimize the work flow in extreme situations.

Fast

  • 10 blood group antigens in 5 minutes
  • No incubation required
  • No centrifugation required
  • Improved work flow

Easy

  • Simple and straightforward procedure
  • Little manipulation
  • Use of whole blood
  • Easy logistics

Reliable

  • Easy to interpret results
  • High specificity and sensitivity
  • Little user intervention
  • Internal controls confirm the test integrity

Stable

  • Results remain stable for 72 hours
  • Easy to review results
  • Possibility to keep record of results

Extra help in complex cases:

MDmulticard® is an excellent complement to your routine techniques for resolving complicated cases such as:

  • Confirmation of weak phenotypes
  • Typing patients with a positive Direct Antiglobuin Test
  • Identification of double populations with a very minority population (e.g. 80% vs 20%)
  • Typing of newborns with very low sample volume: minimum volume required by MDmulticard® is 25 µl.

*MDmulticard® is useful to perform forward ABO grouping. In life-threatening emergency situations, test procedures can be reduced and therefore reverse grouping can -in accordance with most National Guidelines- be omitted. References: BCSH Guidelines, German Guidelines
