The 2014-2016 Environmental Program progresses have focused mainly on the implementation of systems for reducing electricity, natural gas and water consumption, and increasing waste recovery.

RAW MATERIALS CONSUMPTION

Grifols implements eco-efficiency criteria in the research and development phase in order to reduce the environmental impact of their products and production processes.

 

The main raw material of the Bioscience division is the plasma donated in 159 operating plasmapheresis centers. In 2015, the volume obtained was approximately 8.2 million liters, 9.7% higher than 2014.

Grifols implements eco-efficiency criteria in the research and development phase in order to reduce the environmental impact of their products and production processes.

The total consumption of electricity has been of 316,556,602 kWh. An 88.7% occurred in the Bioscience Division, where energy saving measures led to a decrease of 5.5% of consumption on production.

92% of natural gas consumption has been conducted in the Bioscience Division. The cogeneration plant represented 28% of total natural gas consumption.

Grifols has improved its assessment in the CDP Iberia 125 Report over the previous year, its rating improved year-on-year to 97 out of 100, putting it in performance band B (out of a total of five bands, with A being the highest band).

Under the agreement cooperation partnernship with the Consorcio para la Defensa de la Cuenca del Río Besòs (Consortium for the Defence of the Besòs River Basin), in 2015 we proceeded to the drafting of the Restoration of the Tenes River Path project.

ENVIRONMENTAL TRAINING,
AWARENESS AND COMMUNICATION

2,738 employees received environmental training, mainly aimed at raising employee environmental awareness, training activities focused on proper waste management and knowledge of internal ISO 14001 audit procedures.

Grifols regularly organizes environmental awareness activities to involve staff in the implementation of good environmental practices in their work areas.
